Casserole (2009)

Over the course of four weeks I collected footage at the dinner table of my home and I used the different stories and conversations shared to stitch one dinner conversation together. My interest lies in the art of conversation – how we react and interact. This is one of my first conversation pieces and the only piece that uses “real material.”

Real Men (2009)

This  is conversation with myself as both the subject and as the interviewee; my two selves converse to an off-screen self (who is not actually present). It is a sort of mocumentary where I am using real material from a real experience (an encounter with a strange man) where I “struggle” with my morals and general ethics in regards to this encounter; the interview is my solution to materializing my thoughts about the given issues. I use the split screen to create a temporal barrier allowing the viewer to question whether the character is actual two characters or if the interview is over a course of time. I was interested in the works of Candace Breitz and Colin Campbell in regards to making this work.

Blogs for a Film (2009)

This video is an investigation of the Internet as a space/non-space and how we exist in it. Onscreen I take on the personas of five different characters to enbody the writers of found blogs on the internet. I used a computer narrator to read each blog out as each of my on screen characters acted as a body for the anonymous writers. The computer narrator reads the words in a monotone voice, mispronouncing and mis-stressing certain words, presenting very private and emotional stories in a disconnected and cold manner.

some chat (Monika & Carlos I) (2010)

This is a banal internet conversation between two high school kids, Monika and Carlos. This video has two parts to it, as a suggestion of a never ending Internet conversation. This work is an extension of Blogs for a Film, where it takes the nature of the Internet and materializes its participants.
